Paul Intemann Memorial Trail

Paul Intemann Memorial Nature Trail (named in honor of a Manitou Springs city planner) is a popular trail that winds south of Manitou Springs. It is a part of the Ring the Peak trail system and serves as a connection to other trails.

Hiking north to south the trailhead is located off the Ruxton Avenue by the Iron Spring. Follow the trail through Spring Street and through the gate. After about 1/2 mile you will see a spur that leads up to the Red Mountain. Another 1/2 mile later the trail crosses Pawnee Avenue.

Here you can hike the side fork of the trail that leads to a dead end at the cemetery. To hike the side trail continue north on Pawnee Avenue. Turn right on Southside Avenue, then walk a short portion of the trail to Delaware Road. The trail continues off the city streets again by the Tot lot. After passing by the High School you will reach the end of the trail at the Crystal Valley Cemetery.

The main trail continues up the Iron Mountain along few switchbacks. Take a minute to walk a short side trail to the actual summit. Next mile the hike follows the ridgeline and then descends to Crystal Park Road.

The final section of the Intemann Trail leads to the Gold Camp Road trailhead. A connection to Section 16 and Red Rock Canyon allows for a number of different loops.

Distance: 5.8 miles from Iron Springs to Gold Camp Road.

Difficulty Rating:

Directions: Section 16 trailhead: From US-24 exit on 26th street.
